To retain the beauty of all our products, a little care needs to be used.
To stabilize and protect your untreated Woodway deck products from the natural aging process, we recommend applying a quality water or oil-based finish. Best results can be achieved by using Penofin as per manufacturer’s instructions. If you desire to paint your product, we recommend a quality oil or acrylic primer coat prior to applying the final coat(s). Be sure to allow sufficient time for your product to dry in between coats.

Woodway plank paneling is a natural wood product. All wood expands and contracts across the grain with changes in moisture content. This planking will do the same if there are large variations in the humidity of the area in which it is installed. This is most likely to occur during the winter heating season and is a natural characteristic. The storage and delivery method will also have an impact on moisture levels.
You can minimize the likelihood of such problems by observing the following precautions:
Installation is best during times when your climate experiences consistent and moderate moisture levels. Cement, plaster and new drywall continue to release moisture for weeks, so care is especially needed in new construction or remodeling. Unhumidified furnace heat will shrink any wood product to some degree.
For best results, precondition your planks prior to installation for at least one full week in the space where they will be applied and in conditions of average humidity. Open the package, separate the pieces, arranging them so that air will move around them. Do not stack on the floor, particularly in a basement.
Apply the first coat of finish or sealer before securing the planks to the wall. Apply finish to both sides, including the tongue, and to both ends to avoid the chance of bare wood showing at the joints. This will reduce the possibility of shrinking or expanding.
Post Caps Finishing:
Wood expands and contracts across the grain. To reduce this naturally occurring tendency and prevent potential problems finish your post caps prior to installation following one of two methods:
Stain finishing; Immerse cap in quality exterior penetrating oil such as Penofin or Cabot’s Australian Timber Oil. It is necessary to finish both inside and outside of the cap. Follow coating manufacturer’s directions.
Paint finishing; Prime inside and outside of cap with alkyd oil base primer or stain blocking acrylic primer. Avoid any metal or glass parts of the cap. Finish cap with exterior alkyd oil or acrylic house paint; two final coats is best.
Post Caps Cleaning:
Wood and Wood Trim Post Caps:
To clean and remove mildew use a household dish brush to apply the following solution to the wood and allow to set for about 10-15 minutes (very important):
3 quarts water
One quart common household bleach
Cup of ammonia-free liquid dishwasher detergent (liquid dishwasher detergent is the best choice as it will not foam like regular dish or laundry detergent.
After solution has set, rinse with garden hose. After 3-4 days have passed and wood is clean and completely dry, you may want to consider applying/reapplying a conditioning agent.
Glass Post Caps:
Use glass cleaner, avoid applying this to any wood trim pieces.
Solar and Metal Post Caps:
Wipe down with a wet cloth or with a solution of warm water and a small amount of dish soap (not dishwasher detergent).
Solar Post Cap Maintenance:
Solar Post Cap Installation:
It is recommended to install post cap to post by applying clear silicone adhesive to each of the four inside corners of the post cap. Follow adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
The life of the rechargeable battery is about one & half years (Approximately 500 charges and discharges). After this period, the rechargeable battery is likely to become weak and need replacing. Replace battery with a new 1.2V Ni-MH AA
